Mexican soccer news for Monday 11 August

  • Oswaldo Sanchez is guaranteeing a victory over Honduras on Aug. 20 at Estadio Azteca in the first leg of World Cup qualifiers. Gerardo Torrado of Cruz Azul said the team needs to maximize its blend of quality and experience.
  • A female referee, Virginia Tovar Diaz, was honored before the America-Morelia game.
  • A midfielder for Indios, Mario Alvarez from Uruguay, will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his ankle in the game Saturday against Necaxa.
  • Ismael Rodriguez of America claims that in the Sunday game against Morelia the ref Franciso Chacon harassed him and his teammates the entire 90 minutes. Teammate Enrique Vera also complained, but less vociferously.
